I brought in the cuckoo clock that had always reminded me of Korea in my childhood and reprogrammed the cuckoo’s motion using Arduino. The bird briefly emerges and retreats, mirroring my own hesitation each time I visit Korea; peering in, questioning its meaning as “home,” and ultimately stepping back.
In this work, the cuckoo reenacts this ambivalence, hesitating as it comes out and as it returns. Its irregular motion can appear humorous to viewers, while for those who share similar memo- ries, its presence evokes a familiar sense of recognition.
