탑 (塔) names a structure that rises in tiers. The Sanskrit stūpa means a heap — a mound of earth raised over cremated remains, sealed under layers of soil and brick. The form arrives as a tomb. It is also the thing one walks around, in a circle, while making a wish.
The sculpture looks for its place to land between the histories of different lands.
탑(塔)은 층을 이루며 솟은 구조를 가리킨다. 산스크리트어 stūpa는 '쌓아 올린 것'을 뜻하며, 화장한 유골 위에 흙과 벽돌을 덮어 봉한 무덤을 가리켰다. 이 형태는 무덤으로 시작하고, 동시에 그 둘레를 돌며 소원을 비는 대상이기도 하다.
조각은 여러 땅의 역사 사이에서 내려앉을 제 자리를 찾는다.
